At first it was looking to be pretty fun. I had finally received my 35mm f/1.8 prime lens I had pre-ordered, and a friend asked me on Friday if I wanted to go to a wine tasting party Saturday night. It sounded like fun since, a)I’ve never been to a wine tasting before and b)it was a semi-formal affair, so I could pretend to be an international man of mystery for one night. Unfortunately, poor scheduling habits and reality intervened.
On Thursday night, another friend of mine (sorry for being vague, but I pretty much try not to name people here) had asked me and a couple other guys to help her get some stuff from her old apartment Saturday after she finished work. She had just had a pretty acrimonious break-up and didn’t feel comfortable going alone. You can file that one under “Red Flag”.
Unfortunately, I forgot to put it in my calendar on the iPhone, and really, if it’s not in the calendar, I’ll forget. Which I did. So fast forward to Saturday afternoon. I left my phone at home while running around doing some errands and returned home to a couple of messages. One was from the friend for the wine tasting, and the other was from the friend who needed help recovering her property. So I had to call to cancel the wine tasting, which sucked.
But the suck was just beginning. I met the other guys at a bar I hang out at. When our friend showed up, we headed to the apartment. I figured that either the ex-boyfriend would be gone, or would just be sitting sullenly while the friend got her clothes and some other personal items. Yeah, and in that world there are unicorns and fairies. Without going into too much detail, let’s just say that it began with yelling (both her and him), and ended with some broken glassware and the police. No one was arrested, but it was really tense for a while. (And yes we got her stuff out and her back safely to her parents’ house)
Going back to work this week on Monday will come as a relief after this weekend.
