The money… it was burning the hole in the pocket.
During lunch today I finally did it. I ran over to the Apple Store and purchased an iPhone. The price point is much easier to justify and of course I have the bonus rationalization of my recent promotion.
I managed to grab the 4GB version, because, well I really don’t need (or even listen to) more than a couple hundred songs on regular basis. And it is pretty easy to create playlists to rotate the music on the phone. Plus, I have my iPod Video if I want a larger selection of music on the go. I was all set to buy the 8GB version, because I figured since the 4GB was no longer being made they would have already sold out. They must still have a buttload of the 4GBs in a warehouse somewhere; the Apple Store people told me they had just received a shipment that morning. Cool, instead of spending $399, I only spent $299.
Now there are some small issues I’ve come across. To get the email working the way I wanted –if I read it on the iPhone I want it to reflect that in Mail.app and vice versa– I had to do a slightly complicated set up. Also, to keep the curved line of the phone, the jack is slightly recessed making it difficult for some headphones to fit snugly. Case in point: my Shure E3c. Since I didn’t feel like buying a cheesy looking adapter, I spent about 20 minutes carefully shaving back the plastic shroud about an eigth of an inch — all the time hoping I didn’t turn my headphones into $150 worth of junk. But I didn’t wreck them and it worked like a charm.
All in all: very happy with this phone. The bluetooth works great and sound quality is pretty decent on phone calls. The built in YouTube interface is a guaranteed time sink. The Safari browser is simply amazing. It’s got WiFi. Having it sync with all my info on my MacBook is great.
I wonder how long it will take me to resist hacking this thing…
MGE strikes again!!
